Zhuyin Keyboard Practice: A Getting-Started Guide

What Zhuyin practice measures here

Zhuyin, also called Bopomofo, uses phonetic symbols to enter Chinese characters. TypeMosaic tests the Traditional Chinese characters committed by your existing input method. It does not test individual Zhuyin keys or provide an on-screen Zhuyin keyboard. This guide is for people who already know their keyboard layout.

Prepare your keyboard

1. Enable a Traditional Chinese Zhuyin input source in your operating system. On Windows, this is commonly Microsoft Bopomofo; on macOS, look for the Traditional Chinese Zhuyin input source.
2. Choose Traditional Chinese in the test's script selector. Select Zhuyin as the input-method label so you can distinguish the result from your Pinyin practice.
3. Use the untimed warmup to enter 今天一起練習. Confirm that candidate selection, tone entry and backspace work as expected in your input method.
4. Try ， and 。 before starting. Latin punctuation and Simplified character forms will not match Traditional source text automatically.

During the test

Click Start, then follow the cursor. Candidate composition does not count until you commit Chinese text. You may correct an unfinished candidate with your input method; once a character has been scored, the test does not let you backspace over it. If you leave the passage, the clock pauses and any unfinished candidate is discarded.

Compare like with like

Candidate dictionaries, predictive suggestions, punctuation settings and keyboard familiarity can change your results. Keep your device, passage, duration and input method consistent. Record CPM and accuracy alongside equivalent WPM. There is no verified population benchmark or certificate attached to these results.
